CONFERENCE INFORMATION


Conference location

9th European Christian Internet Conference will be held in Cluj (Hung. Kolozsvár, Germ. Klausenburg), Romania. Cluj is located in Transylvania, the northwest part of Romania.

The conference will be hosted by Transylvanian Reformed Church District and will be held in Bethlen Kata Diaconical Centre. The city and Diaconical Centre offers excellent facilities for ECIC IX.

Cluj (Kolozsvár, Klausenburg)

The city of Cluj is located in the heart of Transylvania at approximately 400m above sea level and is the fourth largest city in Romania. Its nearly 400,000 inhabitants engage in a wide range of activities, making Cluj a successful business centre as well as a cultural one. Many Romanian and international banks operate in the city, making Cluj the second most important financial centre in Romania.

The city of Cluj is a renowned educational centre, preparing specialists in a wide array of fields of activity. Students and professors have access to the resources of the Central University Library, one of the largest university libraries in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as to several cultural centres and international libraries.

English, French and Italian are widely spoken. The official language is Romanian. Hungarian and German are also used by native speakers as well as non-native speakers. Cluj has two Opera Houses and theatres, both Romanian and Hungarian. Cluj hosts many museums, including an open-air museum of traditional arts and crafts worth visiting in any season.

Sights: Tailors' Tower, Fortified Orthodox Church, Franciscan Monastery, St. Michael's Church, Babes-Bolyai University, Palace of Justice, Cluj Synagogue, Protestant Church, Cluj Botanical Garden.

Museums: National Art Museum, Museum of Ethnography, Transylvanian History Museum, Natural History Museum

Arts / Shows: National Drama Theater, Opera House, Hungarian Theater and Opera, "Transylvania" Philharmonic, Puppet Theater


Bethlen Kata Diaconical Centre

Bethlen Kata Diaconial Centre in Cluj will offer nice facilities for next conference

Bethlen Kata Diakonical Centre is located on the hill near the city centre. Several institutions like the conference centre, the nursing institute, the christian radio station and the dormitory for pupils of reformed school in Cluj operate in the building.

It offers also nice facilities to ECIC IX. There are large meeting room and several smaller ones.

The centre has single, double and triple rooms.

During our conference everyone will enjoy delicious local meals and desserts in the conference centre

How to register

 

Registration has ended. Deadline for the application was March 26st, 2004.

You can register on-line for ECIC VIII by using the on-line application form. The application form must be accompanied by your payment (please, see bank account data below).

If you need an invoice, please indicate this on the application form.

Please notice that the number of participants is limited up to 50 people. The steering committee reserves the right to accept or refuse participants, in order to obtain a balance in participation from the different countries in Europe.

 

Fees

 

Fees are per person and in Euros. Fees include all conference materials, coffee breaks, lunches, excursions and dinners from Saturday May 22nd to Tuesday May 26th, 2003 (include meals from Saturday Dinner to Tuesday Lunch)

Remittance of fees

 

Fees must be paid in EUROS (EUR). If a company handles payment on your behalf, please ask them to clearly indicate your name and code above on the transfer as well as the name of the organisation.

Payments have to be made immedietely after receipt of an invoice.

Please bring a copy of your payment statement to the conference.

 

Confirmation

 

Each participant will receive a confirmation email/letter within two weeks after the registration form and correct payment have been received. Please bring this email/letter with you to the conference. We also advise you to bring a copy of your payment statement in case payments have not reached our account.

Refunds can only be made if we are able to replace participants, because reservations have allready made. Cancellations for medical reasons will be looked on sympathetically.

Please indicate in the letter: Your name, address, organization, telephone, fax and e-mail address and the reason that you are applying for financial aid. You should also include a official letter of recommendation from your church or organization. We will only be able to process your application when both letters are received before March 26th, 2004.

If you are applying for financial aid, please indicate the amount you could pay. We can support only cheapest accommodation (shared room).

There is very limited financial support for a limited number of people. Financial support will be for the conference fee. Note: transport costs to/from Romania will be your responsibility.

 

Dresscode

 

The dresscode of our conference is informal. During lectures and workshops T-shirt, pullover, cotton trousers etc. suits fine. During the Sunday service and Farewell evening it is smart casual (jacket and tie).

 

Extra Excursion

to Transylvania after Conference 26.-30.5.2004 (optional)

Steering Committee arrages the round trip around Transylvania after the conference. Trip will be made by minibus or coach depending on number of participants. Accommodation will be in hostels and guest houses (low level). Note: Meals excluded in the fee.
