International Seminars on Intercultural Pastoral Care and Counselling have taken
place since 1986 in various countries and cities.
Each year from 80 to 120 participants from all over the world attend these meetings.
Practitioners and teachers in the fields of pastoral care, counselling, therapy
or other disciplines from all Christian denominations or other religions and
all other persons who want to improve their skills in helping people are invited
to learn in an intercultural setting.
Interculturality
- is a description of the encounter and dialogue of cultures - and maintaining
ones own cultural identity at the same time
- recognises and values cultural diversity among diverse peoples, groups and
individuals - a significant approach in times of globalisation and cultural
indifference
- is aware of common features of all human beings - and therefore empowers people
to overcome racist, sexist, and other dehumanising attitudes and behaviours
- understands that human behaviours, attitudes, believes and religious faiths
are formed in the contexts of specific historical and local environments
- seeks to advance awareness of fellow humans and encourages dialogue
- explores the powers and influences of foreign cultures on peoples, groups
and individuals - and questions imperialistic life styles which are forced on
others
- encourages exchange between and meeting humans of other cultures as neighbours
and the creation of community with them in an open and fearless atmosphere and
by doing so helps to reduce violence
- sees each individual as a person in his and her own singular identity, right
and dignity.
Intercultural Pastoral Care and Counselling
- is a combination of interculturality and religious believes, Christian
faiths and psychological and sociological knowledge
- stimulates workers in pastoral care, counselling, therapy and other helping
professions to relate their professional knowledge with their cultural identity
- develops attitudes and methods to serve humans from different cultures in
a competent and professional way.
the
International Seminars for Intercultural Pastoral Care and Counselling
want to enhance a mutual holistic learning process among all participants:
- the participants encounter people from other cultures and exchange
various cultural experiences,
- they give and receive new implusesfor new life-styles,
- they give and receive new impulses for their spiritual and communal living.
- they reflect on cultural, social, political, economcal and religious contexts
of people,
- they challenge their own cultural and religious assumptions and presuppositions,
- they present their practice in care and counselling and reflect upon
them from various perspectives,
- they extend their professional knowledge in dealing with the theme
of the seminar,
- they enter into a process of theory-building of Intercultural Pastoral
Care and Counselling,
