Seminar - Wuppertal 2001

15th International Seminar on Intercultural Pastoral Care and Counselling
September 2 - 7, 2001

GLOBAL ECONOMY AND EVERY DAY LIFE

took place at the 'Ecumenical Workshop'-House of the United Evangelical Mission,
Missionsstr. 9, 42285 Wuppertal, Germany

The Theme and the Course of the Seminar in WUPPERTAL 2001

As the economy is increasingly interlinked, a powerful macro system of capital investment, consumer goods and communication skills is emerging - difficult to fully comprehend.
One can say that the current economic forces both, influence and strain the micro system that is our life.
This seminar intends to take a closer look at the interaction of the economic forces with the everyday life of the people in various continents and cultures - and to utilise any insights for the process of pastoral care and counselling.
The working methods will involve the exchange of knowledge and experiences, as well as exercising our perceptive faculties.
As human beings concerned with pastoral care and counselling we intend to listen to the experts' perception of the economic developments.
We intend to immerse ourselves into the complexity of the economic processes and regulations.
Secondly, we want to share our perception of the influence that the economic forces have on the people in the West and the East, the North and the South, and to look at their way of coping with the new chances and challenges.
Furthermore, our aim is to discuss our contribution to a more just distribution of this earth's goods, as well as ask ourselves what kind of spirituality might be helpful in our time of Globalisation.

"Statement" - summing up shared opinions during the Seminar

Arising from various occasions there was a strong move to come up with a paper at the end of the Seminar, stating our shared opinions, as they were given in the discussions, the study-groups and the feed-back session at the end of the seminar.
Charles Konadu/Ghana, Jim Farris/Brasilien und Julia Head/England promoted this move and are doing the job of editing this paper.
