short outline of the study-trip to India:
"Care and counselling in the social, economical and religious context of India"
Madurai - Vellore - Bangalore
January 6 - 26, 2001
This study trip to India had the purpose to explore care, counselling and therapy in the social, economical and religious context of parts of South India. Experts in India introduced the group into the fields of Christian care and counselling, into practices and theories of Care and therapy in Hinduism and in secular settings.
The group was meeting first in Bangalore at the United Theological Seminary
(UTC) for to days. The next station was Madurai and the Tamilnadu theological
Seminary. Dr. Peter Manickam and Dr. Solomon Victus prepared a programme to
experience the social, political and economical situation of the people in rural
areas.
In Madras the group visited a project for children in slums.
Vellore, where the group stayed in the CMC Hospital with Rev. Dr. Jayaprakash,
showed the exceptional medical and educational work in public health care.
The last week the group stayed again in Bangalore at the United Theological
Seminary to learn about health care and rehabilitation in urban settings. An
important part has been to get some insight into care and counselling in the
Hindu and Buddhist context.
