In summer 1999 young people of various Protestant churches have made a mission trip together to Lithuania. They came from:

Trip Report

July 29, Thursday
Arrival at Luxembourg Airport 5:25 p.m.
The group was collected by Johannes and Dirk an d brought to Saarbrücken.
Welcome, dinner and accommodation at the community center of Christuskirche in Saarbrücken.
July 30, Friday
Visit of the baroque city of Saarbrücken and shopping.
July 31, Saturday
Journey from Saarbrücken to Blankenfelde with 2 minivans and a car (8 hours).
Extensive stop in Eisenach (former border crossing between West and East Germany). Visit of the big Wartburg Castle, the place where Martin Luther was in jail and worked on the first translation of the bible into German
August 1-2, Sunday-Monday
Blankenfelde and Berlin
Visit of the German capital Berlin (moved from Bonn back to Berlin after reunification) and sourroundings.
Sunday morning: Services in the Blankenfelde community church
Sunday afternoon: visit of the Prussian Sanssouci palace and Gardens in Potsdam
Monday: Visit of Berlin.
Buying and packing materials and things needed for the work in Kretinga.
7 youths and adults from Saarbrücken and Blankenfelde have joined the group by now.
August 3, Tuesday
Journey north to Mukran Port, Rügen Island on the Baltic Sea (5 hours).
Stop in the old town of Stralsund
Boarding of a combination train-car ferry, starting in the afternoon. Pictures
August 4, Wednesday
Arrival in Klaipeda, Lithuania, in the early morning. Short journey to Kretinga. Meeting up with Ruta & Arunas and the Sandora people.
Setteling down in Kretinga secundary school
August 4-7, Wednesday - Saturday
Work for the Sandora Project
Accommodation and cooking facilities at the school.
Visits to Palanga town and amber museum, Curonian Spit with Neringa, ... Pictures
From August 6-8 there is be the annual large youth camp in Büttinge.
August 8, Sunday
Trip back to Blankenfelde via Poland with one overnight stop in Olsztyn.
August 9, Monday, evening
Arrival in Blankenfelde, overnight stay, departure next morning.
August 10, Tuesday
Long journey due to some traffic jams. Arrival in Saarbrücken at midnight
Accommodation in families of the Christuskirche church.
August 11, Wednesday, 11:30 a.m.
Total solar eclipse
Charity concert on the field of a Roman village near Saarbrücken at the french-german border.
August 11, Wednesday
Last shopping in Saarbrücken
Bar-B-Q in the Christuskirche garden with all families.
August 12, Thursday
Departure for the return flight to Denver from Luxembourg.
